Why you should say yes to maternity photos
Those last weeks, maybe even the last months, when you can no longer see your toes, nothing fits quite right, you just feel heavy, and your belly sits on your legs when you sit. If you’ve been pregnant, you know what I’m talking about. The last thing you want to do is get dressed up and have your pictures taken. As a Carmel maternity photographer, I can tell you that even when you feel all these things, it is more than worth it to take maternity photos. One day, you will be so thankful, and so will that little nugget inside your belly.
It’s fleeting.
It is a short season.
Pregnancy does not feel short while you’re in it. There is so much goodness during pregnancy, and there can be a lot of discomfort and challenges too. When your baby is growing and time keeps moving forward, you will see how short the pregnancy really is. Whether you have one or multiple pregnancies, it doesn’t last for long, and then it’s over. Taking maternity photos is a way to preserve this moment in time. As your maternity photographer, that is one of my favorite things about photography—it’s a pause button. Each moment I am able to capture is a memory preserved forever. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture of my mama pregnant with me, but how awesome would that be? My big kids found it fascinating to look at pictures of me pregnant with them, especially as the older ones watched my belly grow with a sibling. It’s hard to believe that it actually happens. “You were in there!” I would tell them, and their eyes would light up. Taking maternity photos will be for you and the baby. As a maternity photographer capturing these moments for all the beautiful mamas, I wish I had taken professional maternity photos.

Pregnancy is beautiful and deserves maternity photos.
Pregnancy is a miraculous moment in time. You are witnessing a miracle, and like I said before, it’s such a short time in your life. Each time I have the privilege of taking maternity photos for a wonderful mama, I am in awe of how amazing it is. They all talk about their insecurities, but that is where, as your maternity photographer, I am here to help you with each step. We go through and pick an outfit that is flattering, and then I hype them up like they deserve. You are growing a whole human in there and rocking every part of it.
Worth it
Even if I weren’t a maternity photographer, I would say that taking the pictures is always worth it.
When you are not feeling yourself, there is so much to do. The last thing you want to do is get in front of a camera, but think of your future self. In a few years, you will have forgotten all those hardships. It is worth it to take the maternity photos. It’s a short season, the baby will love to look back at your pregnant belly, and it’s a miraculously beautiful time in your life. Take it from me, a mama to four who wishes I had taken professional photos while I was pregnant, and a maternity photographer: you will be so thankful.
