From an Indianapolis Family Photographer: You Don’t Need to Lose Weight to Book Family Photos

Here is my hot take

I am an Indianapolis family photographer and also a mom who truly understands where you’re coming from.

“I just need to lose 5 or 10 pounds before I book family photos.”

I hear this more often than you might think.

And honestly? I get it.

We all want to look and feel our best in photos. It’s so easy to be critical of ourselves. Zooming in on every detail, picking apart things no one else would even notice. I’ve done it too.

But what if we looked at this a little differently?

It’s Not About the Number on the Scale

What if, instead of waiting, you found an outfit that makes you feel incredible right now?

Something flattering. Something comfortable. Something that highlights what you love and softens what you don’t.

The right wardrobe can completely change how you feel walking into your session, and that confidence shows in every photo.

A Good Photographer Has You Covered

As an Indianapolis family photographer, I can tell you this: it’s not your job to know how to pose.

That’s mine.

From angles to movement to gentle direction, I guide you in ways that feel natural and look beautiful. The goal isn’t to make you look like someone else; it’s to help you see just how amazing you already are.

What Actually Matters in Your Photos

Years from now, when you’re looking back at your family photos, you won’t be thinking about those 5 or 10 pounds.

You’ll notice:

The way you looked at your kids
The way they looked at you
The laughter, the hugs, the connection
The feeling of that season of life

Those are the things that matter. Those are the things worth remembering.

Don’t Wait for “Someday.”

Because “someday” has a way of turning into “we never did.”

This moment, exactly as it is, deserves to be captured. Not when the scale hits a certain number. Not when everything feels perfect.

Now.

The Takeaway

You are already worthy of being in photos with the people you love.

Your family doesn’t see any of the flaws you constantly critique; they see you with love, warmth, and connection. And that’s exactly what your photos will reflect.

So let’s stop waiting.

Let’s capture this season as it is: real, meaningful, and full of life.
