Let’s make it easy.
My Top 5 Tips for a Stress-Free Newborn Session
Welcoming a new baby is such a beautiful (and sometimes overwhelming) season. My goal during your newborn session is to make things feel calm, natural, and easy, especially for Mama. Here are my top tips to help you feel prepared:
1. Clothes
Start with yourself first! Choose something comfortable and flattering for your postpartum body. You deserve to feel good in front of the camera. Once you’ve picked your outfit, coordinate the rest of the family around it. Solid neutrals are always timeless. Try to avoid neon colors, busy patterns, everyone in all white or all black, or overly “matchy-matchy” looks. Think soft, simple, and effortless.
2. Location
Light is everything when it comes to beautiful photos. The best spot is often a cozy space in your home with a good window. Don’t stress about deep cleaning; a little tidying is plenty. I’ll help move things out of the frame or even shift furniture slightly to get the perfect light. Comfort matters more than perfection.
3. Timing
Ideally, baby will be fed and content before we begin, but in these early weeks, schedules aren’t exactly predictable—and that’s okay! We’ll go with the flow and follow baby’s lead. Breaks for feeding, cuddles, or soothing are always part of the process.
4. Essentials
Keep it simple! A few essentials like swaddles, a pacifier (if your baby takes one), and a change of clothes for both baby and parents can be helpful. If there’s a blanket, heirloom, or little detail that’s meaningful to your family, we can include it to make your photos even more personal.
5. Relax & Be Present
The most important thing you can bring to your session is yourself, just as you are. Don’t worry about perfect smiles or getting baby to “pose.” Your connection, love, and those tiny in-between moments are what make your photos special. Take a deep breath, soak in this sweet season, and let me handle the rest.
