Senior Session: Top 5 Things to Bring With You

Top 5 things to bring to your senior session

Advice from a Carmel, Indiana, Senior Photographer

What should I bring to my senior session? This is a question I get asked a lot, so I have answers. As we prepare for your senior session, we will discuss a lot about what to bring with you so you can be fully prepared. When you book with me, your Carmel senior photographer, everything about your session is customized to you. From the location to the clothes to the props that represent you and the vibe you want to accomplish for your photos. Not sure where to start; I have a Pinterest board with loads of inspiration. BUT for now, read on for my top five things to bring to your session.

First, and maybe the most important, bring a good attitude to your senior session.

This is huge because you will obviously have more fun if you have a good and willing attitude. Not everyone is as excited to have their photos taken as others, and that’s ok. But you still want them to be great for you and your family to cherish forever. Having a willing attitude will allow us to be more creative, help you relax, and capture a more genuine you. These are all good things!

Second, bring someone with you for senior portraits.

When you bring someone with you to your session, it adds more fun and offers help too. Bring a parent, or both parents. Bring a friend! Sometimes you have a few things to carry, which we’ll get to shortly, and when you have someone with you, they can help carry things, help make you laugh, and sometimes hop in some shots. How special would that be?!

Third, bring a second outfit or layers for a different look.

Depending on the session that is booked, you might have a few full outfit changes. Don’t forget to bring these along, make sure that all the pieces are there, and that everything is dewrinkled and ready to go. When you book a Novel session with me, you might change your outfit 1 or 2 times. When you book a Chapter session with me, you might simply add a layer or hat for a quick change in look. Being prepared the day before your session will ensure that you have everything you need and won’t be rushing around at the last minute. I absolutely know how stressful that can be.

Next, bring a hairbrush, hairspray, and touch-up makeup for senior photos.

I find this to be super helpful because wind and nature can sometimes mess up our picture-perfect selves. A quick brush and some hairspray can do wonders. Also for the ladies, a little bit of touching up on the makeup is sometimes needed. Toss all this in your bag and let your helper carry it for you. I told you bringing someone with you would be super helpful.

Lastly, bring props to customize your senior session.

This is where you can have lots of fun! Football, basketball, golf, guitar, dogs, ribbons, books, your car—oh, the list could go on. You are so unique, and adding some props to your session adds much more of a personal flair. Of course, as with all of these, it’s optional to add props, but it is fun. Think about it; what represents you? What accomplishments do you want to celebrate? What do you want to remember from this season of your life? The location we choose can also play a role in this element. Football field or golf course. There are so many options. If you need inspiration, click here.
