a little of this and a little of that

When should I book my session with you?

Hey Jill! We want to get our photos done this year; when is the best time for a session? When should I book my session with you?

I am so happy you asked!

First, it’s never too early to reach out and chat. If you’re on my radar for the year, and even better, booked, you will get first dibs on open dates for the month you want to book and all the coveted weekend openings.

I also love this question because it’s so easy to answer. There really isn’t a bad time for your session, and there are many positives and some negatives to every season.

When should I book my session with you? The sooner, the better.

Now let’s talk about the seasons.

Book your session in the WINTER.

A winter session can be super dreamy, fun, and probably out of the ordinary for you. Snow especially adds an element of fun and whimsy to your session. The option for lots of layering and fun hats and gloves would also add texture and fun patterns to your wardrobe. I would always say yes to a snow session. The challenge might be that it’s obviously colder and you will need a lot of warm layers or winter gear that you want photographed.

Winter would also add the option of a studio session, an in-home lifestyle session, or some other indoor location for your session. I mean, we can do these types of sessions anytime of year, but winter would be a great time, because sometimes the cold can be tough. All of these listed above would be another way to add variety to your family photo locations and get creative.

Plus…winter = no bugs!

Make it happen in the SPRING.

AHHH Spring! When the weather starts to warm, color returns and nature comes alive again. Some of the benefits of booking a spring session would be the obvious flowers and color, warmer weather, and continued layering options for wardrobe.

You can wear those flowy dresses with a cardigan and not freeze your booty off.

The color of the trees budding and flowers blooming is a beautiful backdrop to any session. I would always say yes to a spring session.

Another great thing about spring is that the bugs are not super active yet. A huge plus in my book.

Think about a session in the SUMMER.

Ok, moving on to summer. I feel like this is the most underrated season for photos. There are so many advantages to summer sessions.

Water! We can do your session by the water, and like snow, it adds a really playful element to your photos. It can be a reward for photos well done for little kids to play in the water at the end.

Color! There is color of all kinds in the summer. Such a lively time of year for pictures.

Time! The sun sets late in the summer, so that allows for work to end in plenty of time to prep for your session and not have to rush around. Also, no early mornings the next day for school. And! The light in the summer is so dreamy.

I would have to say July-September are my favorite months for taking pictures. I will always say yes to a summer session!

The negative could be the bugs. I always recommend lots of bug spray, and I bring extra along in case you forget.

Book your session in the FALL.

The most coveted season for photos. I mean, I get it; the fall color is glorious, the temperatures have gone down a bit, the bugs are less active, and the sun sets a little earlier.

I wonder why this is the biggest season for getting photos taken? From my view every season has so much to offer, including fall.

The fall color is magnificent at the height of the season and, honestly, hard to beat. Definitely something I would miss if I moved away from a 4-season location.

The sun setting a little earlier helps families with littles get that sunset glow and still have a decent bedtime for their kiddos.

The temperature might be a little less intense, but not always. With this, the bugs are a little less active, but I still always recommend bug spray.

Fall is a great time for family photos, and I will always say yes to a fall session.

You can see the trend of how I will always say yes to a session in any season because they all have beauty, positives, and a few negatives. When we go through the year, each season is my favorite. What is your favorite season?

Now we can go back to the question: When should I book my session with you?

My life with family, home, homeschool, and work probably looks a lot like yours—full. Am I right? Full is so good, and I love it, and we all know how fast a calendar can fill up. So when you think about booking a session with me, and you think you want to do spring, summer, or fall and you’ll just wait until then to reach out, don’t do it. When you think, When should I book my session with you? Reach out now! Earlier is always better!
